Qal’at Al-Bahrain, or also referred as Fort of Bahrain, is an archaeological wonder nestled along the Arabian Peninsula. In 2005, it was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It also used to be the capital of the Dilmun era. The site is significant in Bahrain for its antiquity.

1. Fort of Bahrain is located near the sea
Did I just mention the sea? Yes, the fort and the tell stands near the seashore by reclamation of land. It is so wonderfully located that you will get a beautiful view of the ocean. 2. The architectural design is magnificent
Dilmun civilization originated here. The fort is basically composed of several layers of ancient stones built on top of the other. The fort is the one that you can see at the topmost area. Since 3rd century BC, Dilmun palaces brought great influence to architecture all over the region. The area of palm groves and gorgeous landscape has been well-preserved by its occupants.
3. The fort was a significant trading place
This place has been known for being a trading port for several years. Even traders from neighboring countries come here to witness the progressive trade center. It became popular among nations and this started the friendship among other nationalities. 4. Q’al-at means fort
Qal’at Al-Bahrain, being a fortified place, got its name from Arabic word “q’al-at” meaning “fort”. This place was also known as Portuguese fort during the early century. Wander around the area and be amazed with the history and significance of the fort. Strike a pose and smile as you take photos.
5. The fort served as a settlement area.
For about 4,500 years, the fort has been occupied by various settlers of different eras. What’s more, these years have been continuous up to present time.
